What is Family Systems Therapy?

  • Family systems therapy is a form of psychotherapy that addresses relationships, dynamics, and patterns that exist within families.

  • Family systems therapy; is for all kinds of families. Family members can include individuals who live both inside and outside of the home and who may or may not be biologically related. But most importantly, this method assumes that each family member affects all the family members., Thus, each person’s experiences, and struggles are evaluated and treated within the context of those of other family members.

  • It considers the overall “personality” of the family or how the family operates as a system to maintain itself.
